SEC and the Single Cannabusiness: Avoiding Liability When Funding Your Company
Saturday 11:00 AM

As if navigating the murky waters of cannabis regulation weren't challenging enough, cannabis business owners also have to contend with more traditional legal issues faced by all early-stage entrepreneurs. Compliance with state and federal securities laws is an often-overlooked topic, but one with broad applicability and the potential for huge liability if something goes wrong. I will cover the basics of securities law compliance for cannabis entrepreneurs, including identifying transactions covered by securities law (it's more than you think!), risk management in investor relations, compliance with state and federal registration requirements, consequences of noncompliance, and more.
